Brigit fees & plans: Free vs Plus vs Premium

Brigit replaces interest with a subscription. That's cheaper than a payday loan for most people and more expensive than nothing if you rarely borrow — here is exactly what each tier costs and includes.

What an advance really costs

Brigit charges no interest, origination fee, late fee or tip on the advance itself. The cost is the membership plus, on Plus, an express fee if you can't wait for ACH. That makes the effective price depend entirely on how much and how often you borrow:

$50 once, Plus + express$9.98–$11.98One month of Plus plus a $0.99–$2.99 express fee — equivalent to a very high APR on a tiny amount
$250 once, Plus, standard$8.99About 3.6% of the advance for a two-week bridge — far cheaper than a payday loan's $37.50
$500 every month, Premium$15.99/mo3.2% per advance with express included; $192 a year if you keep it all year

The rule of thumb: Brigit is good value when you take advances most months or genuinely use the budgeting and credit tools, and poor value if you keep paying while rarely borrowing. The cost calculator below compares it with payday loans, overdrafts and card cash advances for any amount.

Total cost of borrowing

Fees only — none of these options charge interest on a 14-day Brigit advance, but the others do charge finance fees.

Assumptions: payday fee is the CFPB's typical $15 per $100 per two-week term; overdraft is the common $35 per item; card cash advance uses a 5% ($10 minimum) fee with interest accruing from day one at 29.99%. Brigit's membership is counted in full even if you'd keep it anyway. APR eq.s are shown for comparison only — Brigit advances have no APR.

Express delivery fees

Standard delivery is free on both paid plans and arrives by ACH in one to three business days. Express sends the advance to a linked debit card, typically within about 20 minutes. On Plus, express costs a per-advance fee that scales with the amount — Brigit shows the exact figure before you confirm. Members report fees from $0.99 for the smallest advances to roughly $3.99 for larger ones. On Premium, express is included.

If you use express more than about twice a month, Premium's extra $7 pays for itself; otherwise stay on Plus and plan requests a few days ahead.

When Premium is worth $7 more

  • You want to build credit. Credit Builder is Premium-only and reports to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion with no hard inquiry to open. Read our Credit Builder review.
  • You always need the money today. Express is included, so two or more express advances a month already cover the difference.
  • You don't have identity monitoring elsewhere. Premium bundles up to $1M in identity-theft insurance and credit-report monitoring, which costs $10–$20 a month standalone.

If none of those apply, Plus is the better buy.

Getting an advance without a subscription

Brigit's Terms of Service (section 7.7) say you can request an Instant Cash advance without a paid membership by emailing [email protected] and stating that you want an advance without a subscription. You still need to pass the same eligibility checks, and the process is manual — expect email back-and-forth rather than a button. This option exists partly because of the 2023 FTC settlement, which required Brigit to make the subscription's role clearer.

Using the email route means you give up the in-app budgeting, alerts and Auto Advances. For a one-off advance it can be worth it; for regular use, Plus is simpler.

Billing, cancellation and refunds

The membership bills monthly to your linked bank account or a card on file, starting the day you subscribe. You can cancel any time in Settings → Membership, on the website or through support, and the FTC order requires Brigit to process cancellations immediately even if you have an advance outstanding. The plan stays active until the end of the paid period; Brigit does not prorate or refund unused days. An outstanding advance is still due on its scheduled date after you cancel. Full steps are in our cancellation guide.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Brigit free?

The Free plan is free, but it does not include Instant Cash advances in the app. Advances require Plus ($8.99/month) or Premium ($15.99/month), or the email-based no-subscription route described above.

Does Brigit charge interest?

No. Advances carry 0% interest and no late fees. You pay a flat monthly membership and, on Plus, an optional express-delivery fee.

Why was I charged $8.99 when I didn't take an advance?

The membership is a subscription, billed monthly regardless of use. If you don't plan to borrow or use the tools in a given month, cancel before the renewal date.

Can I switch between Plus and Premium?

Yes, in Settings → Membership. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the next billing date.

Is the express fee the same every time?

No. It scales with the amount advanced and is shown before you confirm. Premium members pay no express fee.
