Before you cancel
- Check for an open advance. You can cancel with one outstanding — the FTC order requires it — but the advance is still due on its scheduled date.
- Note your billing date. Brigit doesn't prorate. Cancel the day before renewal to get full value from the month you've paid for.
- Consider downgrading instead. The Free plan keeps alerts and budgeting with no charge. Downgrade is in the same menu.
Cancel in the app (iPhone and Android)
- Open Brigit and go to Settings
Tap your profile icon or the gear in the top corner.
- Tap Membership (or Subscription)
You'll see your current plan, price and next billing date.
- Tap Cancel membership
Brigit may show a retention offer or ask for a reason. You can skip it.
- Confirm
You'll get an in-app confirmation and an email. Keep the email — it's your proof of the cancellation date.
Cancel on the website
Log in at hellobrigit.com, open Account → Membership, and choose Cancel. The flow mirrors the app. If you subscribed through the App Store or Google Play rather than directly with Brigit (uncommon, but possible on some older accounts), you must cancel in your phone's subscription settings instead: iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Android Play Store → Payments & subscriptions.
Cancel through support
If the button isn't working, use in-app chat or email [email protected] with "Cancel membership" in the subject and the email on your account. Under the 2023 FTC order Brigit must honor the request promptly; keep the thread.
Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription, and neither does unlinking your bank. Always cancel through one of the routes above.
What happens after you cancel
| Item | What happens |
|---|---|
| Membership | Stays active until the end of the paid period, then stops. No further charges. |
| Refund | No proration or refund for the unused part of the month. |
| Open advance | Still due on the scheduled date; Brigit will debit it as planned. |
| Credit Builder (Premium) | The account closes; contributions are returned if in good standing. The tradeline stops reporting. |
| Your data | Account and bank link remain unless you delete the account separately in Settings → Delete account. |
Getting a refund
Brigit's policy is no refunds for partial months. Exceptions members have reported: being charged after a confirmed cancellation (always refunded with proof), and duplicate charges. If a charge appears after your confirmation date, contact support with the confirmation email; if that fails, dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer. Refunds from the 2023 FTC settlement were a separate process, sent automatically in November 2024 — see our FTC explainer.
Deleting your account entirely
Cancel the membership first and make sure no advance is outstanding. Then Settings → Account → Delete account. Brigit confirms by email and removes your bank connection; some records are kept as required by financial regulations. You can also revoke Brigit's access from your bank's side through Plaid's portal at my.plaid.com.
Need more than $500?
Brigit caps advances at $500. Compare personal-loan offers from $200 to $5,000 — free, no obligation, and checking won't affect your credit score.
